Stone Craftsman

Project Description:

  • Rooted in the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th century, this Craftsman home celebrates a tradition of hand-crafted workmanship and a deep connection to nature. The original plan, however, had become fragmented over time with an isolated kitchen and a poor relationship to the backyard. We reimagined the floor plan by expanding the kitchen and introducing a glass bay for a casual dining area. This new space unifies the flow of the main living areas and opens seamlessly to the terrace and garden, restoring the indoor-outdoor connection.
  • Contractor: NJW Renovations Unlimited
  • Landscape Architect: Outdoor Space Design
  • Interior Designer: CRI Designs.

Project Details:

The new glass bay is on axis with the original front entrance of the home, so now you can see directly through the home to the back yard the moment you walk in.

The kitchen was enlarged to allow for a big island as well as a new walk-in pantry. Trim and cabinets were designed to coordinate with the original woodwork in the house.

The addition looks like it has always been there, so the house retains its original character while still adapting it to today’s needs. There is more natural light to connect the interior and exterior – in perfect alignment with the Arts and Crafts philosophy.
